–>Roller Derby is a regulated contact sport, so there are also rules to learn! To consult them, go on the WFTDA website. We also recommend seeing a game to get an idea of ??the sport and better understand the rules, and live is even better! The last local game will be September 21st, so you still have time to come and see! Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/365716267428221/
–>Completing the Bootcamp is happening once a year, it’s the only way to join the Montreal Roller Derby league (http://mtlrollerderby.com/), don’t miss your chance!
–>Need equipment? Go to Lowlifemtl! You can even order online, but we strongly suggest you go try different skates. People at lowlife will be able to answer all your questions and help you choose what’s best for you.
–>If you want to get a head start and learn to skate, join the Whiskey Derby Montreal!
It is highly recommended that you try skating before attending the camp as the pace is quick.
This bootcamp is also a great opportunity to learn the basics of skating and derby with the goal of becoming a referee for the league! Plus, it is not necessary for you to join the league after completing the bootcamp, but it is obligatory to pass each level to be allowed to continue the bootcamp.
Once a league member: a minimum attendance of 60% to practices (Tuesdays and Sundays) is mandatory. Dues are 50$/month and volunteering is mandatory.
* MTLRD’s bootcamp is opened to anyone, regardless of gender. MTLRD recognizes that identifying as transgender, intersex, and/or gender expansive is not in any way related to an individual’s eligibility for participating as a volunteer, skater or employee. Montreal Roller Derby League will actively work to promote a climate that is welcoming and inclusive of transgender, intersex, and gender expansive participants. Any conduct which fosters a hostile environment for any participant on the basis of gender identity will not be tolerated.
