Joan of Arse was always guided by the spirit.
Raised in a convent, Joan was prone to visions and demonstrated a total disregard for authority.
She answered to a higher power. At the age of seven she cut off all her hair and decided to devote her life to God.
For Joan, true commitment meant using her specific gifts for good.
Her special gifts, however, happened to be of a rather bawdy sort, and she was also a bit of a brawler.
Joanís hands were the trouble.
They were either balled into fists fighting for righteousness, or down the pants of the boys and girls of her parish in what Joan considered the highest of spiritual acts.
In the hopes of distracting an adolescent Joan from her ìworshipî, the nuns at the convent decided to focus on her feet.
They found her a pair of roller skates at the conventís charity store and encouraged her to skate for the Lord.
To their surprise, Joan took up the sport with zeal - discovering that speed was the third in her holy trinity of special skills (the first two being ferocious strength and unbridled sensuality).
In no time Joan left the convent for a new place of worship: the derby track. Gone were the days when Joanís skills were dismissed as sins of the flesh, or misconstrued as signs of madness.
Adopted by a clan of lady misfits - the Contrabanditas - Joan now happily and freely expresses her particular brand of holiness. God help you if you are on an opposing team.
