The New Skids On The Block open the season in Montreal

Friday February the 15th, the New Skids On The Block officially opened their roller derby season at the Taz taking on the Tri-City Thunder.

Despite the cold wave hitting the city, Montreal’s hottest team on the block is getting ready to turn up the heat. On February 15th at the Taz, the New Skids on the Block, holding the 5th rank in the WFTDA East Division, will welcome Tri-City Thunder for their first game of the season. We talked to the Skids’ new coach, former Skids and Ditas player, Ewan Wotarmy, in order to know what to expect (apart from amazingness on wheels, of course) on that big night.

MONTREAL, QC – Although the New Skids on the Block and the Boston Massacre had met many times before, it was an unfamiliar sight that met Montreal fans last February 17th. Not only was the bout held at the Taz, an unusual venue for the New Skids who were also decked out in brand-new uniforms, both teams fielded rejigged rosters. Boston saw the departure of many vets in 2011 (including star jammer Claire D. Way), while Montreal was without its key jammers, Georgia W. Tush and Iron Wench. February 17-18-19 will be MTLRD’s first training camp, hosted by the New Skids on the Block. It is with great pleasure that we announce that all the trainee spots were sold out in advance to skaters from Ontario, New England, Quebec and the Maritimes.

 

The week-end will start on a high note at the registration session at Taz, Friday night. At 8pm, the New Skids will take on long time rivals the Boston Massacre. The teams have met four times in the past, and the Skids have only won one of those match ups. However, the last one was … >>>
